Doosan Engineering & Construction's Weave Championship (total prize money of 1.2 billion won and 216 million won in prize money), the opening game of the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour for the 2024 season, will be held at Teddy Valley Golf in Seogwipo, Jeju for four days from April 4 to 7. It was held at Ann Resort. The venue was heated up with rich themes such as Yoon Na-na, Bang Shin-sil and Hwang Yu-min's return to long hit power, Shin Ji-ae, the "final queen" who appeared on the domestic stage for the first time in three years and eight months, and Kim Min-sol, the world's best amateur, challenging the professional stage.
And from April 8, a day later, the "Yellow Chicken Q Capital Partners Dream Challenge," a KLPGA second-part tour, was held in the same environment and course setting as the Doosan E&C Weave Championship until April 10. The goal is to provide the players of the first-part tour with the experience of the first-part tour. The Dream Tour players who play in poor conditions were provided breakfast considering the cost of their trip to Jeju Island, and 300,000 won was provided to the players who failed to make the cut in the preliminary round.
Doosan E&C and Yellow Chicken are operated by Q Capital Partners (CEO Hwang Hee-yeon), a private equity fund (PEF) operator. Doosan E&C's Weave Championship, which will be held for the second time since last year, is considered to have a clear sense of purpose that goes beyond corporate promotion and contributes to laying the foundation for Korean women's golf to maintain the world's top for a long time.
Oh Se-wook, managing director of Doosan E&C, Yellow Chicken, and Q Capital Partners. He was the head of the golf team at the 2002 Busan Asian Games, and he is an expert who systematically learned golf theory in the United States. We listened to Oh Se-wook's story.
The second part tour competition, which takes place in the same environment as the first part tour competition, is a unique idea.
"I believe that in order for Korean golf to develop, the environment of Dream Tour (part 2) or Jump Tour (part 3) needs to be further developed. If the focus is on the first part of the tour, too few players will have a chance. The gap between the first part of the tour and the size of the competition is wider than the gap between Dream Tour and Jump Tour in many ways, including the environment, prize money, and the size of the competition. If we make efforts to create a good environment for Dream Tour and close the gap with the first part of the tour, the women's golf market will become stronger and bigger." Both interest and success
The 2nd Doosan E&C 'Weave Championship' became a hot topic. What changes have you made?
"The biggest change this year was that it became the opening game of the season in Korea. Under the slogan of 'Festival Start', we focused on creating a 'Festival Space' where players, golf fans, galleries, and viewers can enjoy pleasant communication before, during, and after the competition. It received a lot of attention as a special stage where all top-class players from home and abroad participate, who improved their skills during the off-season. We designed a variety of participatory events and plenty of entertainment for golf fans to participate in. Considering that receiving a player's autograph is considered a precious memory, we created a limited edition of 300 copies of 'Autograph Book' this year. With the plan to run throughout the season starting with the Doosan E&C WEVE Championship, we plan to provide a special experience by inviting the two players who received the most player's autograph in a year to the Pro-Am. "We will remember the KLPGA players throughout the season and look forward to the
positive effect of expanding interest beyond this competition to the entire KLPGA."
It is impressive that the venue is clean, such as the hall information board, backboard, teeing area, and surrounding green.
"As a construction company with the goal of 'creating space value in a unique way', I wanted to make the space called a conference hall unique. Unlike other competitions, I think the course billboard should have an aesthetic aspect that can be harmonized with the surrounding landscape, not just an advertisement medium for exposure. Doosan E&C's Weave brand symbol was applied to create a unified design in the form of a three-dimensional cube, and corporate necessities were put on both sides of the cube to deliver the message. The hall guide sign was inspired by prestigious overseas golf competitions such as the U.S. Open and installed in a classic form.
We are running a tournament with a team. What differentiation strategy do you have?
"The main character is the athlete, and the competition is the stage. I want to create a good concept scenario and create a comprehensive art of golf." When all these things are designed from scratch and moved into one, the audience seems to be moved and applaud. I think it will have a great effect when players, competitions, advertising, and marketing become goals that can lead to communication, empathy, and preference rather than just means for recognition. Contributing to society through golf is another important strategy. We will play a positive role in the society through various activities such as donating the full amount of entrance fee to a competition, accumulating donations whenever a golfer makes a birdie at a regular competition, and raising donations through auction of players' cherished items. We root for you to do so. These various activities are effective in imprinting a luxurious and friendly corporate image among golf fans."
Doosan E&C's golf team consists of five people with different personalities, including Lim Hee-jung, Park Gyeol, Yoo Hyo-joo, and Kim Min-sol.
"Exercise and personality are the most basic virtues. In addition, Doosan E&C's WEVE Golf Club was founded with five top-notch players with individuality, charm, and storylines. In individual golf, rather than fighting alone, I wanted to create a team of five players who rely on and support each other." As a way to promote WEVE's excellence and its five meanings, the five players will select and promote the five essentials (Have, Live, Love, Save, and Solve). It is a way to connect one's personality and charm with the essentials. Yoo Hyun-joo chose "Have," "Live," which is effective, "Love," and Kim Min-sol chose "Save." Lim Hee-jung chose "Space where life problems are solved, and Solve." More and more points are being built where players, clubs, competitions, and sponsors are connected in various directions to become one. As a club that provides inspiration to the golf industry, it is expected that it will contribute to the development of the industry
