Two players got their revenge.
The Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 118-84 in Game 5 of the first round of the 2023-2024 NBA Playoff Eastern Conference at TD Garden in Boston on the 2nd (Korea time) to advance to the second round of the playoffs with a 4-1 record overall.
Boston also met Miami in the 2022-2023 NBA Playoffs. At the time, we were competing for the most powerful position in the Eastern Conference. But Boston bowed to Miami. Because of this, Boston missed a chance to make the NBA Finals.
However, the 2023-2024 playoffs were different. Boston had an advantage from the start. This is because the series began without Miami ace Jimmy Butler (201 cm, F).
So Boston was able to take a 3-1 lead into Game 4 of the series. Notably, Game 4 defeated Miami 102-88 despite poor performances by Jason Tatum (203 cm, G/F) and Jaylen Brown (198 cm, G/F).
And Game 5. Boston showed off its firepower from the beginning. Jaylen Brown and Derrick White (193 cm, G) led the shootout. Both players went in and out of the net. Here's a formation supported by Jason Tatum. That allowed Boston to finish the first quarter with a 41-23 lead.
Although Boston led by a wide margin, Brown's sense of touch did not subside. He actually showed off his explosive power early in the second quarter. He scored the points in a variety of ways, including pull-up jumpers, turnaround hook shots, and pull-up 3-pointers. Thanks to this, Boston was able to take a 55-25 lead just four minutes into the second quarter.
When Boston's score was silent, White broke the silence. The layup after the breakthrough poured cold water on Miami's chase. After White broke the silence, Tatum and Jr. Holiday (193 cm, G) scored. Boston finished the first half 68-46.
There was a big difference between Boston and Miami, but the NBA's flow has accelerated a lot. So the flow can change quickly. That's why Boston couldn't let its guard down.
Brown and White seemed to know about this, too. Brown induced a foul free throw and remained focused, while White scored three points. The two players' firepower helped Boston regain its lead by 30 points (76-46) at the start of the third quarter, 2:10 into the game.
Brown and White remained focused until the end of the third quarter. Both players poured in 25 points into the third quarter. Boston finished the third quarter with a 98-66 lead. The victory was achieved. We maintained our winning streak to the end.
Boston erased its pain from a year ago with the scoring abilities of Brown and White. After washing away the pain, Boston prepares for Game 2 of the playoffs. They will face the winner of the Cleveland Cavaliers-Olando Magic. Cleveland and Orlando have a 3-2 record in the series. Cleveland is one step ahead.
