Pepper Savings Bank, which was at the bottom of the 2023-2024 season with 23 consecutive losses of shock, is preparing to leap forward with a new mind.
Pepper Savings Bank started its first training schedule at the Tamagawa Arena in Kawasaki City, Japan on Wednesday morning. Tamagawa Arena is a training ground for the NEC Red Rockets, which Pepper Savings Bank formed a sisterhood relationship with in 2022.
Practice games began on the first day of off-season training. Pepper Savings Bank, NEC Red Rockets, and Gaetsu University played a three-way match, while Pepper Savings Bank lost all two sets against NEC, the winner of the V-Premier League in Japan, but brought one set against Gaetsu University.
Coach Yoo Ji-yeon said, "The most important thing is to check how much we have prepared so far and to supplement what we can do. I hope the training will be good."
The team is undergoing training to emphasize the basics. "If you look into thick volleyball, there are many details. The details eventually come from the basics, and if those things are organized well and solid, the team will not just collapse in a difficult crisis," said Coach Jang Ji-yeon.
The new faces of Jangwi and Zavic are also joining the team. "As Jangwi and Zavic have strengths from height, we need to make good use of the strengths that have increased due to the addition of Jangwi and Zavic," said Coach Yoo Ji-yeon.
Park Jung-ah, who has been captain for two consecutive seasons, said, "I'm aiming to go to spring volleyball first. I think it's important to achieve my goal little by little, so I'm working on getting better every day."
"I'm working hard during the offseason. I'll try harder to show you better performances this season, so I'd appreciate it if you continue to support me," he said.
